Every team needs " a run".
I don't remember who Tweeted this, but I think about it often because I think it's true: every team needs a workout or run that's unique to the character of their program.
Lydiard's runners famously logged their Waiatarua Long Runs, The University of Colorado has Magnolia Road, Michigan has, well..."The Michigan".
In the Central Catholic (OR) Featured Program article, Coach Dave Frank tells the tale of the Washington Park Tuesday Night Fartlek. I loved it.
Our team's run is our Long Run at Victoria Lake Road, which the kids affectionately call: "Vicky".
Vicky is brutally hilly and the terrain is rough and that's what makes it special. There's somewhat of a rite of passage each time a runner hits a new milestone on the run: 8 miles, 9 miles, 10 miles, etc.
I don't know if Vicky makes us any better than a normal Long Run, but the kids sure think so, and that's good enough for me.
Every team needs "a run".
