Doug Petrick

Upper St. Clair HS, PA

Doug Petrick coaches Cross Country, Track & Field, and teaches Physics at Upper St. Clair High School. He is active during all three sports seasons. Since 2009, Doug has been Head Spring Track & Field Coach, and since 2006 Doug has been Head Indoor Track & Field Coach. Through the winter and spring track & field seasons, he trains the distance and middle-distance athletes. In the fall, together both Coach Petrick and Coach Maureen Chermak guide the USC Cross Country Teams (2008-present).  Doug began his teaching career at Upper St. Clair High School (a public high school which is located in a suburb near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) in 2002.  Under Coach Petrick’s guidance multiple athletes have earned medals and appearances at both the District and State levels of competition. 


A general summary of these accolades include...

  • Fall Cross Country:  Over a Dozen Cross Country District Medalists & Multiple Cross Country PIAA Medalists 

  • 1 Foot Locker National Championships Finalist Athlete with a 16th place national finish

  • Indoor Track & Field: More than two Dozen TSTCA (District) Medalists &  Multiple PTFCA (State) Medalists

  • Spring Track & Field: Over Dozen Track & Field District Medalists &  Multiple PIAA Medalists


Most recently, this past fall, the Boys Cross Country Team wrapped up one of the best finishes in Upper St. Clair High School history, with a 7-1 section record. Additionally, the USC Boys team ended with a 4th place overall finish in the AAA classification, with two individual athletes advancing into the PIAA State Championship meet. On the ladies side, this fall, a young Women's Cross Country Team at USC achieved 8th place in the AAA team classification. As a result of this women’s team performance, one USC female athlete earned a trip to the PIAA meet.


Doug Petrick resides in Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania with his wife and three children. In addition to teaching and coaching, he enjoys spending time with his family, running, reading, and creating coaching and educator content. Doug is thankful to have mentors and athletes along the way that have continually helped him evolve as a teacher and coach.
