For the better part of the last half-century, Joe Rubio has been a vital contributor to American distance running.
Since 1998, Rubio has been the Head Coach of the California-based Hoka Aggies (previously Asics), one of the premier competitive running clubs in the US. Rubio-coached runners have qualified for USATF and World Championships.
As an athlete, Rubio was an NCAA II All-American in the 5,000 meters and later qualified for 2 Olympic Marathon Trials (1992 and 1996), finishing his competitive career with a 2:18 marathon PR.
Rubio spent time coaching for Cuesta College in California and has been the founder/direction at events such as the San Luis Obispo City to the Sea Mini Marathon and the 2002 and 2006 USATF Fall Cross Country Championships.
Rubio, who holds a Masters Degree in Physical Education, is the co-founder of Running Warehouse, the go-to online running shop for the latest and greatest info on shoes and gear.
His “Guide for the Competitive 1500 Meter Runner” is one of the most useful and practical resources available to middle distance coaches.
